John McCollum

DAYTONA BEACH -- John T. McCollum, 49, of Twin Coach Court, a field service engineer at Kennedy Space Center Launch Control in Titusville before his illness, died Thursday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.
Mr. McCollum moved to this area in 1965 from his native San Diego He was a 1972 graduate of Mainland High School and served in the Air Force at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. An avid golfer, Mr. McCollum won numerous tournaments and scored three hole-in-ones. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles and was a member of the Harley Owners Group Motorcycle Club and Moose Lodge 1122, Rutland, Vt.
Survivors include a son, Thad, Gainesville; a daughter, Samantha, New Smyrna Beach; his father and step-mother, Thaddeus and Merle McCollum, Daytona Beach; his mother, Theresa McCollum, Holly Hill; a brother, Patrick, San Francisco; two sisters, Maureen Day, Ponce Inlet, and Christine Turton, Columbus, Ohio; a step-brother, James Keith, Ormond Beach; a step-sister, Carol Phillips, Bunnell, and his ex-wife, Julie Johnson, New Smyrna Beach, who provided for his care. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.
